We got out to a old spot today. It's been a pasture for years & just got put back in crops again. Thanks for looking & HH

Wow, great finds, that Epaulette is fantastic.

While I admit I don't have much CW hunting experience, I understand most guys who had them on their battlefield uniforms had pulled them off very early, is this true?

I think I read the same thing about them also. I've found them in two different locations. One was a 2nd corps head quarters of Winfield Scot Hancock. This last one was at a Confederate battle line. I've found three at the Confederate Spot. This last one is the only whole one I've ever recovered. I find the pieces all the time there. Both spots are Gettysburg campaign. That's pretty late for them I thought but I guess not. I read that the artillery crews would whear them to protect against Cavalry attacks. They would help protect against saber blows to the shoulder. I did find a artillery officers button at the 2nd corps camp & a block A button at the Confederate camp. Thanks for checking out my finds.
