Hey guys, as I understand from image searches that this is a US Militia button Pre-1840 don't know much beyond that and would love a timeline as I will be giving it to the homeowner on whose property I found it.

Back: a bit too chewed up to be worth a photo, but bent loop shank on one side wrapping around it says Treble Gilt, around the other side it says Standard -----
