Lots of headstamps, got tired of picking them up. Shell casings, keys, even some modern junk, 1 clad dime & 2 zinc pennies. Included pics of the site, I dont know what the concrete structures are but they had something to do with the artillery. You Army guys please comment.
One had clothing & trash scattered about, probably used as a homeless shelter ? Thanks for looking.

Those look like rattlesnake breeding boxes :lol:

My grandma called those seed things devil’s claws.

Other then the 50 cal slug, those are mainly all commercial shotgun brass and a few handgun cases. Looks like someone uses it as a shooting range. I have WWII aerial gunnery ranges by me, I find all the 50 cal brass is dated 1941-1943.

Those are probably permanent fox holes or the foundation for bunkers

we still have a bunch of pill boxes around here

These boxes are directly in line with the bunkers, one for each so I dont think theyre rattlesnake boxes. There are bolts sticking out of the cement on three sides so they had 3 walls at some point. Dont know.

When my father enlisted in the Army Air corp during WW2 he was trained as a gunner for bombers (flew belly gun on B24's).
The gunnery training consisted of lots of Trap shooting with 12ga shotguns.

Those concrete boxes would be great for the traps to throw birds.

An interesting historical fact I read online...Charles Bronson & Clayton Moore ( the lone ranger ) were both stationed at our base diring that time, True.

My grandfather was a tailgunner. He said they did hours and hours of trap shooting as part of his training before he even saw a .50 cal.
 
fun pix . Looks like a merc from a WWII trainee has GOT to be out there somewhere ! :laughing:

that makes sense, improve the hand to eye co-ordination and ability to lead targets.

If you couldn't do it on the ground, then why put you in the tail of a bomber.

By the way the B-17 was designed in such a way with the placements of the machine guns that when in a proper formations a flight of B-17 were very well protected against enemy fighters. Not so much from flack.

Nice post and pictures to remind us that it can all happen again if our elected political leaders don't keep our military strong.
