In 1965 we had a major flood here in Dodge City Kansas. I was told a few weeks ago that the Pepsi Cola plant was flooded and all the bottles had been contaminated and were taken southeast of town where the were buried. 10,000 cases/240,000 bottles were buried.

After some research we found the cache. Our first test hole with the bobcat yielded bottle after bottle. Some date back to the 1940's. Here is some pictures of the first test hole.

Bobcat      You are going to ruin so many bottles, dig by hand like it was a relic site.......which it is

That's an interesting find!

Let's see now... 5 cent deposit times 240,000 bottles = $$$$$!

We are using the bobcat to just remove the top 2' of dirt. On the test hole we dug a bit deep to get an idea of how deep the pit goes. From this point we will use shovels and screwdrivers to keep from breaking as many as we can. There are 7up, Dr Pepper and Pepsi so far. The embossed ones are worth more and they all seem to be the 6.5oz or 7oz which is more valuable than the 12oz or 16oz.

Lets see. 5 cent deposit a bottle times 240,000 = $12,000

On average about $1 each but some of the embossed ones are fetching around $5-$10 each. Of course many are damaged as far as the labels goes due to being in the ground for 40 some years but we're hoping as we get deeper we will find the painted labels in better shape. The older embossed ones look pretty good though.

Excellent find, and thanks for the great pics! Hopefully, the deeper you go, the older the bottles will be! That's an awesome story! Good luck with the project, hopefully you score some great stuff! Keep us posted!

Excellent find. That is a lot of bottles. If those bottles could be sold, that would make someone a lot of money.
