I, like all of you, comb through historic aerials and other old maps. I found a 1943 topographical map showing a school (that is now field) not far from my house. I found who the owner was and finally fought past my social anxiety and went to his house. He was exceptionally nice. His family has owned the land a long time, but I didn’t ask how long. He did talk about things his father did with the land when he was a kid. I would guess him to be about 70. He also told that he didn’t remember a school or any building being there, so I went on my way. A couple months went by and I kept seeing the school on a couple different maps, so I went back and asked if I could detect it. He said yes, but only the around the edges, because there are crops in the field. I’m glad went back and asked because it has been a great couple weeks of detecting. I am finally finding some history and I found some silver too. I’ll post pics and links to videos if you are interested in more of the history. I’m still not sure there was a school, but there were definitely houses there.
Thanks and happy digging

What a great place to hunt, you did exceptionally well, congrats. The "F" with the h s has to mean High School wouldn't you think? How big is that piece?

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing about it being a “high school”. The F is the first letter of the city the site is in. It is 2.5 inches by 1.75 inches. Belt buckle size maybe??

Thanks. I was there again yesterday and it continues to give up finds.
