It starts on the afternoon of the 3rd with a large crowd gathering around a lake with a list of bands performing in the bandshell in the ampitheatre; the symphony orchestra takes over at dusk and then at 10 pm the fireworks begin, coreographed to the music from the orchestra. After about 20 minutes of one rocket anfter another, the grand finale leaves you speechless. After the 20 minute drive home, maybe some more fireworks, (if you know what I mean) and then on the Fourth is a mid-morning parade followed by a picnic lunch and an afternoon on the boat (on a different lake), water skiing and just floating around and trying not to get sunburned. Around dinner, the boat gets docked and we join friends at the pub on the lake for burgers, steak, shrimp or whatever, and to hoist a beer or three (cheers Beerdoodle!) and then it's back on the boat to stake out a choice spot to anchor and wait again for the 10 pm fireworks; this time being right under them and on the water. When that's over, I drop my passenger(s) off at the dock and I go back out on the lake to either wait for my turn at the landing, or if the night is clear with enough breeze to discourage the mosquitos, I may find a small bay to anchor in and toss out a Lindy rig with a crawler and just lay back in the boat watching the clouds drift past the moon and waiting for a walleye to take the bait. This can last until about 4:30 am when the birds start a ruckus fighting for their spot in the morning worm buffet and by then the landing is deserted and I can load up the boat and head for home / work. Other than that, nothing much........
