I chipped this out of the frozen woods today, my only good find.
There was a homestead here once from the 1850's and it was gone by 1900.
Also found were a harmonica reed and horse bit.

It has the same shape and seam as many of the clay pipe stems I find.
Perhaps it could have been for opium?

Can anyone confirm that this is from that time period?

Do you have a picture of it?

I haven't seen any pictures and I don't know anything about Korean pipes but people also think Japanese kiseru are opium pipes but they are just a kind of tabaco pipe.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying a Korean peace pipe, more than likely used for illegal stuff, well illegal in WI that is

That's a good find. I find a lot of similar style pipe stems and bowls here in Japan. Usually they were a mouthpiece and a bowls connected by a piece of bamboo so you just find one or the other. Occasionally I found one piece all metal pipe.

I have been wondering how to date them too. I believe that tobacco was introduced in Japan in 1500's and became poplular in the 1600's. This style of pipe was popular until the early 1900's here and you can still buy them. I have a lot of them but I have know idea how to know if they are 400 or only 100 years old.

I don't know about Korean pipes but you may be able to find something online. The designs on it may give you some hints.

Looks like a modern one-hitter; I've seen similar ones in the local head shop. And we're not talking about tobacco either.
