I just got a chance to go detecting for the first time since the end of
October. It had been too cold, and I had too much other stuff going on.
Today it was 38*F with no wind, so I figured what the heck. I'm going...
The spot wasn't far... My back yard.
I had found a lot of colonial era coins and artifacts in the past, so it's a
good area, close by, and I get along with the owner (lolol).
I got my M6, put fresh AAs in it, grabbed a 9v for my pointer, and off I
went...
Got a questionable signal almost right off the bat. All that's left in my yard
are iron, hot rocks and questionable "probably square nails" signals, so I
put the tip of my shovel on the ground and kicked it in with my heel.
Ooouuuch.
Took me about 5 minutes to dig down 5 inches, chiseling away a layer,
rechecking with the pointer, chiseling, pointing, etc.
My first prize of the day: a square nail.
Packed the dirt chunks back in the hole, jabbing it with my shovel as I
did so, so it would all fit back in. Took a lot of stomping on the plug though.
Onward...
Second signal was different, but still a questionable one... Same thing.
Dig for five minutes to find a damn square nail.
Third signal, I'm praying... This one's very different. Display is saying
'Ring/foil'... So again, I chisel away... IT WASN'T A SQUARE NAIL!!!
It was a .22 bullet.
That's it. I give up.
I went out there, needing to get my fix... and I wound up getting fixed.
No more for me until everything is completely thawed.
How do you snowdiggers do it??? I now have a ton of respect for you.
