I have notice that the BHID 300 false at the saltwater surf line where the wave action is moving the sand around or if I hit the coil with my finger it gives me some false signals. Is this normal?

Even If I wind the cable tightly around the shaft, I get the same false effect.

It should not maight need to send it into white. Try after it has been dry and tap on it with your hand and see if it still sounds off that way it shouldn't. I had one do that and had to send it back.

Try running in AM mode and see if it runs any better

Sounds like you might have a bad coil.
They did have problems with some of them.

I had a black "300" coil that went bad and removed it from the BHID to send to White's.
While it was gone I installed a 10" EXcelerator (DFX) coil from Kellyco on the machine.
It worked great ... very stable and plenty sensitive.
When White's sent me a new yellow "300" coil to replace the bad one I removed the 10" EXcelerator and installed the new coil.
I did NOT like the new "300" coil near as much as the 10" EXcelerator coil.

I traded the BHID with the new "300" coil but kept the 10" coil and if I ever get another BHID it will be installed on it right off the bat.
