Bought a CHEAP 1923 Peace dollar!

NGC just discovered in 2008 that China had been making NGC cases, assigning numbers to them that match the coin in the holder and then flooded the market with them.

This is not new. Fake NGC and PCGS slabs from have been around for more than a decade.

If you truly want a nice coin, go to a coin shop.

Sorry to say that may not be true either. The coin dealer in this article is either a fool or he knew he was buying fakes with the intent to sell them for a higher price. Only two possibilities. I'm going with the latter.

The fake slabs for NGC were found/discovered/revealed in 2008. I did not mention PCGS at all in my post.

This press release was dated 1/7/2008 on NGC's website. PCGS had
counterfiets long before NGC.

As far as reputable coin shops, you have to find one you trust.

You need to be very very careful when you buy coins on E-Bay. 90% of these coins have been "Dipped" to give it customer appeal. And do not feel safe because you are buying a graded coin. NGC just discovered in 2008 that China had been making NGC cases, assigning numbers to them that match the coin in the holder and then flooded the market with them. That is one of the main reasons NGC changed their slab to look the way it does now.

There should be three arrows on all sides of a real NGC slabbed coin, the fakes did not have these. I am referring to the "New" holder.

I always buy using the axiom, "If it is to good to be true, then run like Hell in the opposite direction".

If you truly want a nice coin, go to a coin shop.

+1

It appears that the folks selling those fake coins that are made in China took it up a notch. Now some have surfaced encased in counterfeit PCGS holders.

I have bought and sold all kinds of stuff on Ebay for over 10 years and I don't buy anything from people with a feedback rating like his. Too many negative and neutral feedbacks for me. Just a heads up for you.
It's hard to know if the guy knew it or not but he's not carefull in his dealings. IMHO
