Went hunting out at the site of a couple old forts dating in the 1840,s-1850's. Found the 2 piece button. could be civilian? What do you think?

That backmark dates it to 1836-1848

The date range on the backmark puts it between 1834-1848. It’s civilian from a period referred to as the Golden Age of gilt buttons.
Edit: Oops, Va-Reb was all over that already. (My slightly varied date range is from Tice’s uniform button book)

My date range is from Albert's book. No big difference in the dates!!
