Of copper pennies. The best guess I have is some kid lost all of his pennies at the beach in the 70s. I had a wierd dime signal and dug a dime and penny. Passed the coil over the hole and heard another solid copper signal. I figured, no way, it has to be mineralization. Of course I scooped for good measure. Another penny! There was no more signals but I scooped again for good measure. Another penny. 1 Dime, 3 copper pennies, and a real deep hole. 1963 to 1975 on the pennies. Now the whole time I was hoping "gold ring...gold ring..gold ring dangit!"
I found a bunch of junk and 2 zincs before dark and hit that mini-glory hole right at sunset. The rest I found by sound only. Is it normal to dig targets faster in the dark with an Ace 250 or any detector for that matter? Lack of distractions I guess. I may do some night hunts soon.
