Wish I had a scanner..this really deserves a pic for you folks.
Had a hunt in the brushy part of my world here on the west side of Washington State and ended up digging a ugly green disk the size of a quarter.
Well after a bit of gentle washing and (not so gentle fingernail scraping) I find I am holding a French 5 centime coin. Looks a lot like a 1848 one centime but a bit more research shows it to be almost fifty years older.
In my part of the country a wheat pennie is considered very old so I am still in a bit of a stupor as to what to do next.
