Yes, it has some kind of counter stamp which was a bit of a downer, but I was still thrilled to dig it! Do you happen to know of any sites that track stamps and who might have made them?

Awesome hibernia copper! I think the counter stamp makes it a better find! More unique, the site you found it could hold some early silver too! Congrats and HH!

I wouldn't call that counterstamp a "downer" by any stretch. it could be really rare! Congrats on the unique coin! It's also Irish.

Thanks Isaac! A couple people have mentioned the counterstamp isnt really as bad thing, so I'm feeling better about the stamp.

Someone on another site did some research and it seems this coin was owned by Sir Edward Gibbs, a British Army officer (Lieutenant General) who became Lieutenant Governor of Jersey.
This coin was found in NJ, so it seems to match up.

Thanks! I was bummed by the counter stamp at first, but now it adds great history to the coin.

Looks like it was down a good clip too looking at your hole.
Good ol south jersey cornfields. They sure make it easy to detect and dig as opposed to briar patches and huckleberry.
