What can you folks tell me about this cellar hole? I found this in the woods in central, Ma. Theres a larger foundation thats hard to see maybe (20x14) that surrounds the structure in the middle.(fireplace?) I beleive this is on an old colonial path road that ran from Conn. To Boston back in the 1700s. I still have to do more research at the town library. For now anyways I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about what I'm looking at. I also found some old red brick scattered around.

The first picture I found online but is much the same as what I found.

Not real sure but the center part may be a root cellar? I would be hitting that place hard. Here in up state New York most of the old cellar wholes are on state forest preserves. and are off limits to detecting. Not to say they all are on state land.

Looks like like a pristine spot , don't see any trash laying around , are there hiking trails leading to it ? Good luck on the research and hunt

I'm quite sure you've found a modern hobbit dwelling 😀
