Interesting to see that this board is being used to lure punters to porn sites. I was demonstrating how to use Flipboard on my iPad, when I was confronted with this:

So embarrassing ... I'm still trying to convince Mrs John that I'm not in the habit of looking at such pages. Be aware!

Speaking as someone who has operated a forum I know that spammesr are always out there and now and then one will sneak through.

This forum does an awesome job catching and removing spammers. It's very rare to see the post, before they get removed. I'm on an electronics forum, where I report on or more a week, and I'm not that active there anymore. The news channel site I use, gets hit several times a day. Although, I've never seen porn advertisements.

Can't imagine any real effective way to stopping it, since it's the World Wide Web, and not all countries are going to go through the time and expense of prosecuting the spammers. There is always the geek challenge of getting past whatever security measures people put in place to stop the spam.

Mostly, it's the hard work of the folks running the forums, watching for it, removing it quickly, that keeps this site so clean of it. Can hope that when something does get past, people aren't clicking on the link, since it confirms a successful delivery, and further attempts. If you see, report it. Clicking the link could do bad things to your computer, you never really know what's on the other side. We all have a big sense of adventure, part of the hobby, but computer curiosity is usually a bad thing, and seldom worth it.

how ironic......thats how i got into the hobby, i was surfing porn and a detecting ad popped up

The problem is with Flipboard and not Friendly. I surf this site on my Ipod Touch, smart phone, and 3 computers, and have never gotten a porn advertisement.

We're not associated with Flipboard. It seems to be a app where you can view magazine-like articles.

Wired and the New York Times are dropping them due to a conflict in ads.

After researching it online, it appears many people have complained about porn ads popping up while even reading a news article.

You can try posting on their support forum here:

So, if you are going to use Flipboard, you don't seem to have any control on what type of ads they show you.

I'm worried about Beerdoodle, this has been up all day and haven't heard from him. I feel like I should call the Red Cross.
