I wouldn’t even try on this BUT I have seen some miraculous IDs come from the membership.

Found this extremely toasted coin today. On the front is what appears to be a right facing bust, likely a slender female. You have to hold it at exactly the right angle in the right light to get a glimpse of it.

On the reverse, you can clearly see the number “2” at the bottom. There seems to be a floral display or possibly a fleur d’ lis in the center. At the top it seems to have the letters “ENCE” ( pence?).

Somebody work your magic. What did I find?

Yup, it's a British 2 Pence coin, minted between 1971 and 1981, when they still had "NEW PENCE" as the reverse legend atop the Badge of the Prince of Wales.

I lived in Britain on and off for a few years during the '70s and early '80s when the coin you found first saw the light of day, and even then I couldn't much see the point of the denomination, which folks there call a "two pee". I mean, they had a 1 new penny coin and even a tiny half new penny minted for a couple of years, after they first "decimalized" in 1971, changing from their ancient pounds, shillings and pence system. Why the 2 pence? Aside from the odd cheapo slot machine I cannot recall any real use for it. Apparently, others also felt burdened by them, since they're actually only legal tender up to 20p...ten of them. That's all anyone is legally obliged to accept in payment. Nowadays, after nearly five decades of inflation having eroded away much of the little value they had when they first appeared, they're talking seriously about doing away with the 1 and 2 pence coins, same as folks in the States wonder why we still even have pennies. But at least we don't have 2 cent pieces any more...

Great ID, just think in 100 years that 2 pence will be a bucket find since they are only made for 10 years. Lol

Man it's been 150 years or so since the US 2 cent had been minted and that is a big one on my list!
