I have used the electrolysis method before with great success. I wanted to clean this early 1930's (stevens hero ) cap gun up. my question is.... will it discolor, or make the grips brittle? I don't think it will eat them? had anyone ever delt with something that you cant take off the metal, if so... what was the out come?

ok, thanks. I think I'm going to try it. last time I added a cup of baking soda.... wasn't sure what that would do to the grips? the grips appear to be held on by a shiny aluminum rivet?

always a chance the rivit is very thin and will come off. but on an item that heavy rusted i don't think theres many other ways to clean it.

I left it soak over night..... I'll re-soak it this weekend, while I'm home and can keep an eye on it.. lol. not sure when it was put in the ground.... its an early 1930's stevens hero.... there is a lot of years of dirt and rust on it.
