Most of us have one of these laying around collecting dust. The plastis is thick and durable.

One angled cut across the top of the container and drill some holes and the scoop is done.

Two U-bolts from the hardware store ($3) and a broom handle or piece of conduit and shazaam!

I've used it for about 4 hrs and have had no issues yet. Not pretty but functional and very affordable. Hope this helps somebody in a pinch.
 
That's cool there , I just threw one of those away because I couldn't figure out what to do with it , although I don't get to the beach near enough , I will remember that for the next one I see , because for the price of a scoop and the amount of time I get to detect a beach , buying a scoop would be a waste of money for me ,,, great tip , thanks
 
Thanks guys! I've actually been using it in creeks with sandy gravel bottoms. The plastic is so rigid that its been working great.
