Got out today after the snow/rain mix with the ground thawed a bit. Was attempting to ground balance over some ground where I wanted to start and heard a clean 25/26 and popped out a 1848 large date half dime. Glad to put this as my first silver coin for the year. Will most likely be the last chance I get for a week or so as the temps will be dropping very low!

Congrats on the killer find. I envy you northeastern dudes when it comes to detecting. Lots of old coins still in the ground. Still hoping to find a half-dime one of these days. Would be like winning lottery where I live. Same for Large Cents.

Thanks! I’ve only lucked out at one spot out of numerous spots I’ve gone to and they are coming few and far between.

That is an awesome find for sure, and she looks to be in great shape too. Hopefully the ground doesn’t lock up tight but it looks like it’s going to get really cold over the next week. That’s definitely the way to get on the silver board for 22. Congratulations

Jackpot on the first nickel and a great find to boot. Way to start the silver fty count. Congrats on a very fine looking half dime. Good luck, Mark
