Got out today after the snow/rain mix with the ground thawed a bit. Was attempting to ground balance over some ground where I wanted to start and heard a clean 25/26 and popped out a 1848 large date half dime. Glad to put this as my first silver coin for the year. Will most likely be the last chance I get for a week or so as the temps will be dropping very low!

Congrats on the killer find. I envy you northeastern dudes when it comes to detecting. Lots of old coins still in the ground. Still hoping to find a half-dime one of these days. Would be like winning lottery where I live. Same for Large Cents.

Yea I had just turned on the machine to try and get a ground balance; spent the next hour and half digging pull tabs, bottle caps and the occasional shell casing.
