11 round coil dd vs 11 x 7 dd

If a dd coil is sending energy field out the shape of a book on its spine mainly focused up the center what difference then is there between a 11 inch round dd and an 11 x 7. Seems its just 11 inches of energy on both. Running up the middle

Keeping with the metaphor, the spine of the book is wider/thicker with a wider coil. If the length from heel to toe to same, the wider coil will have increased depth and increased sensitivity/ID of larger objects. This will be at the expense of separation and sensitivity/ID of smaller objects.

Minor differences in coil size/shape are only experienced in fairly clean soil with low mineralization levels.
