Just bought a house with 3 acres a few months back and was out detecting some more of the land today. Under some old cedars I found a coin spill with a 1973, 1972, and 1970 lincolns and a 1952 wheatie. But then about a foot away I got a little different signal and pulled up what appears to me could only be an old musket ball? It's about 3/8 inch wide and pretty sure it's lead. :?:

It sure looks like a round ball. I don't know if there is really any way to date it though. I know in some soil the old lead gets a white patina and in some soil it does not. I have a lead shotgun slug that is just was white as can be and it is from the 1970's and I have a lead round ball that is brown and crusted over that is probably from the Civil War era or earlier (approximate date by other finds near by).

I think that you do have a small caliber round ball though. Nice find.
