Looking for a button collecting book for dug button identification. Is there a book that any one can recommend?

Best book bar none and out of print:

Uniform Buttons of the United States, 1776-1865 by Tice

It's hard to find. I was lucky enough to find a shop still had some copies for $50 each for our club hunt prizes. The only copy on ebay right now wants $175 and that's far cheaper than any other place I've seen doing a quick search.
