Similar but nowhere for springs or anything else...

I think it is for a slower rpm with notches like a locking mechanism for a blind or something of that nature but I am only guessing. Some one will know, they never cease to amaze me with the amount of knowledge that members have here.

hey Ice, interesting piece for sure! any kind of markings at all that you can see? and will those pieces swing freely right around or are they limited as to how far they can travel?

No stamps or markings anywhere on it...

The pieces can move about freely..

awww shucks.... it's just been lucky guesses all along, LOL!

but dang, that thing is bugging me now. looking at your pics again, do i see tiny little "V" shaped notches near the ends of those swing-out parts?

Yes, it's symmetrical, and made well, but not clock parts well IMO.. Each piece is about 1/8 inch thick..

yep, ok thanks. and google images seems to be ruling out clocks as well. process of elimination i suppose, haha! :lol:

Definitely not clock related. I work on pocket watches and clocks as a second hobby.

The slotted hole, to be totally clear and open, each pawl, must stick out some.. For what? To turn something different? Sort of like a clutch, but maybe a tool, or lever on a machine engaged it?

That's going to be a tough one. Using one of those image recognition programs may just bring up an example of the answer , but then again maybe not
