Boy was I in for a surprise. I've gotten bear pics before. Wolf pics, Coyotes and even a bobcat. But THIS Pic has me legitimately worried about walking and getting in between mama and one of her family should they not follow her when she hears me walking in. I DO Carry a 45 cal 1911-A1 for just such an occasion but wish upon wishing that I NEVER need to use it to defend my life.

I guess I need to suck it up and get brave and just keep going right. I mean with these two boys walking around out there. Sure would be nice to take one of them. I know, I know. Many of you, if you're hunters, might be saying they arent big enough. Well, for where I hunt on State owned land these are almost as big as they are gonna get. Surprises me each year when I see some of the bucks I do on camera. Just gotta see them in person, so to speak.

Edit, middle picture is "Stickers" As he has double 2" Stickers at the base of each brow tine.
Bottom picture is "BigSlim" 10pt. Only picture I have of him. No videos.

The best way to stay out of trouble is to not be in a hurry to get to your stand.
Stalk your way in, so that you can be as aware as possible of their presence if they are there. Bears are not particularly quiet, so if you are you will know whether they are in your vicinity or not.

You let me come get one or two of those booner crockets off your spot and I'll be your personal body guard from momma bear. LOL those are some nice bucks.

Thats a lot of little bears! I think probably the max a Black bear sow could have even...? She would probably be grateful if you took a few off her hands? You could make yourself a hat and a pair of assless chaps!

I consider myself lucky that the one bear I came face to face with in the wild was a male. It was that time of year when the females would have cubs with them. It would be one of those situations I would have to let my wife run faster than me.

"have you ever gone over to http://www.chasingame.com/forum/index.php?"

Nope. Never been there. Will check it out.

I Do "sneak" in as quietly as possible. BUT, Down side is if they dont hear ME coming, They wont be able to leave before I get there. Bears would rather avoid humans if they can. My worry is mama leaving with "most" of the youngn's and one or two going up a tree and me not knowing it and ending up between them. OOPS. Probably never even see them but still the human mind imagines bad things in the dark.

Biggest deer there is the 10 pt and he might,, MIGHT go 120. Just too thin of beams. No mass. But he's really good for the cranberry bog area I hunt. All my years up there I've only seen 3 on trail cam that would be B&C or P&Y bucks. One on cam last year would probably go 170-190". Never saw him in person. I've attached a pic of him below.

A bear hunter I talked to said he thinks its either a sow with her 2 cubs and 3 adopted or possibly a 3 yr old with 2- 2yr olds and 3 1yr olds that all just recently got told to go away by their moms. ? Ive sent pic to the local DNR Bear specialist for that area but have yet to hear back from them.

Me? I've got my 45 cal with me out there now. Have had it for 3 years "just in case" Surely hope I NEVER need it. Would break my heart to have to senselessly end a bears life. Then have to explain and PROVE to the DNR that it was self defense. That would be tough to do without any marks on me. Cool pictures for discussions tho eh?

Oh yeah nice bucks for sure. That’s sure is a healthy bear family. You should see about getting a bear tag. I’m not sure if it’s lotto or what for bear tags in your neck of the woods though. My step dad gave me some steaks from one he got several years ago and after all the horror stories I heard about how gamey bear meat was I was blown away. Just tossed them on the grill and they were amazing and not one bit gamey. It wasn’t a huge bear either though and I think that has a lot to do with it. Heck I would rather eat a young doe then a big buck any day of the week but I still would like him on the wall though.

Nice to see others interested in the sport. We are about 1 to 2 weeks out from peak rut here in Iowa. I am lucky to have good land to hunt. Best of luck to you.

I've got some videos from the past week. Set all my cameras to video mode. Lots of bucks chasing does around. Really wishing on one hand I had NOT left the woods at 11 am yesterday but then that would have meant a blow out at 70mph in the dark and trying to change it on the shoulder of a dark 70mph interstate. Not healthy not to mention the heavier traffic after 5pm vs noon.

Not sure about video's here. Dont see a way to upload them. Either way I could take some screen shots and post them.

I'm not a bear hunter. No desire to either. I've heard about the "Death moan" they emit as they die. My cousin shot one with a bow. Double lung shot and still got to hear it. Said he doesnt know if he'll shoot another one.

"Floyd"

"Lowboy"

"OddBall"
