Hunted my sister's house found nothing she said ask the neighbor. He said I went through this yard with a fine tooth comb didn't even find a coin but I was welcome to try. And I got two silvers 57 and 48, my first V nickel 1912 and my first George VI penny 1940 :D. Also got a solid flat piece that says "body the losers only the American people who once more" no idea what that is. A lion ring plated but still cool and a button that says military equipment. He was pretty excited to see what I found and I'm heading back today. One last thing I found a thing with a hole and maybe a design around the hole and looks to be silver. I cleaned it up with baking soda along with the 57 dime did the dime to see if it would ruin it came out fine might do the 48 too. The little piece came out shining bright as the dime so it could be silver I need to pick up a test kit for future finds.

Nice finds , congrats , you're "Hammering" his yard ! I would say that the " what ever it is " was once a silver ring that had a stone . It probably got mangled by a mower . Nice job on your photos also !

The "body the losers" thing is a lead Linotype slug for printing. Would have been one line of type from a page.Probably was ""everybody the loser" with "every-" on the line above. EDIT... guessed wrong!

The line is from a September 1950 newspaper story. I can't see the whole thing because I'm not a Newspapers. com subscriber.

I was wondering what it was thanks just found another one tonight at my sister's house next door from where I found the first one. Can't really make it out the first word but the rest looks like "would be to get the pig".

Cool finds. The line type is odd. Why would they make it like that? Instead of set type that is?

Linotype used a keyboard that dropped molds for each letter and then cast a "line of type" in lead. Much faster and you never ran out of a letter like with handset type. When you were done printing you just melted the type back down.

The "pig" is actually "pro-" (posal). Same Sept. 1950 date, bet it was the same story about some pending US legislation.
