I really wasn't going out hunting today....mid 90's with high humidity (I think the heat index was officially 543 degrees....). But it was breezy and I thought maybe I'd get out for a couple hours...
Went to a new permission on a road that sees little traffic; was hoping it hadn't been touched. There is one house that is 1840's or 50's built and another house that I'm guessing is late 1800's or turn of the century - both on the same property. The "newer" house is vacant and the older one has had the same couple living there since the 1960's.
Breeze was decent and there was a little bit of moisture from a storm a couple of days ago, so digging wasn't horrendous. My third hole saw an 1881 Indian pop out. I only really worked the front yard (ended up being about a 3 hour hunt). Ended up with three Indians (1881, 1890, and a really beat up 1865). Five wheat pennies and some other odds and ends. The 1966 Bahamas penny threw me when it came out...kinda cool with the starfish on the reverse.
The only spot other than the front yard of the older house that I hit was a loop around a lilac bush at the corner of the house that took me under the old clothesline. Got a gargly, bouncy signal that I was pretty sure was a bottle cap. Glad I dug it! First Barber half dollar for me!!
Wife called me to warn me there was a severe storm coming. And it did come. A few frantic holes scored me that Bahamian penny.. Raced back to the car to roll up the windows just as the wind came blasting in. Went back to the house to find that their power had gone out. Rain was torrential for a bit (nicely watering my dry plugs ) Was right place/right time because the husband was stuck reclined in a powered chair and couldn't get up to his walker without some help. Sadly it was too dark for them to really see my finds (except the silver half of course).
There is a TON of space left on that property and I'm welcome to go back. I think there are a lot of days hunting left there.....
