I'm getting a metal detector for my friend and I'm wondering can a Compadre fit in a 52 inch bag without breaking?

Can't see why not,they do come apart at the shaft.

I would not use a gun case , might attract unwanted attention , they might think its a gun . That's my opinion

I wouldn't think a rifle case would have the needed width for a detector. I recently found a bag for carrying golf clubs that has plenty of room. While not padded, it keeps the detector clean. You might also want to check pawn shops for a used case for hunting bows or one for guitars. There are a lot of cases that might work. You only have to use your imagination.
