If it's a random find, you are never going to know what the sealed
document was.
If on the other hand, one of these seals is found in a secure context, in
other words, with identifiable remains for instance. It is then possible to find
out what the document was. As all bulls (papal documents) have a duplicate
in storage.

Not exactly true, we have all now seen it - moreso than we would have if it were locked in a dark museum closet.That is always the risk, but if you keep it in a drawer nobody is
going to see it.
