Started out with the stainless 5" RTG "monster"

Added a noodle and better grip for floatation..

Sharpened and buffed the cutting edge to cut through the hard clay better.

Worked much better, but then I drilled more holes in the front to help with the major issues of clay chunks vacuum locking to the front..

It worked wonders for 3.5 seasons. Until.........

Ice I hope that fiberglass handle does better for you than it did for me. Maybe you're much longer dowel will do the trick. That "Razorback" lasted me 3 hunts. I did love the grip on it.

It seems strong as hell.. Did it fit the tube tight? I think a longer tube that fits tight, longer dowel (with the grain aligned properly), sealed water tight, should be bullet proof.... I hope..

Looks good ice, You must be one hell of a good Pinpointer with that 5 inch.

Thanks man, it's what I learned on.. Every once in a while I'll take 3 or 4 shots at it.. Sometimes a dozen lol, but I never give up..

Sounds like a beast to me! Hope you get many more years of use out of it!

Nice mod Ice! Armchair quarterbacking here...wondering...if a fellow welded the bottom of the tube to a piece of flat stock, then sort of bent the flat stock to wrap it around the body of the scoop a little, so a guy could really put a larger bead to it and spread out the strain forces a little?...

We think alike... I had the same thought.. The guy helping me with it assured me that it would hold up well, and if it fails, we'll try again.. He said he didn't add the base plate in an effort to keep the weight down.. I've seen aluminum scoops with similar plates.. But stainless is stupid heavy...

"Stupid Heavy?"...Says the guy who wears 30lbs of lead ingots in a vest?!....

One little band of SS? Weighs what, about as much as a Big Mac tops! Oh well, at lest he is up for a do-over in the event of a failure..
