new to site and detecting

hello all-

I am new to the site and the hobby of metal detecting. I went out on my property today, as according to local historians is part of the Confederate encampment during the retreat from Gettysburg. I found two interesting things with my step-son and thought I could get some help identifying. Thanks again for including me in this group. Hope to find more to share.

I have trouble with pics also. My phone is the prob.
I have to take pics that have less than like 1.10 mega bytes.

You have a square nail and what to me looks like a melted piece of aluminum, or some sort of pot metal. But keep after it.

The blob looks to be melted aluminum. The other piece at first I thought square nail. But it doesn't look iron. What is it made of?
