Hi Folks,

I first got into MD'ing back in late 70's. Local library didn't have any info
and I never met any other MDers. Didn't learn a lot but did find some
decent coins and a few rings. Finally moved on to other hobbies.

Now through the world wide internet, tons of info is available, the quality of
the gear has improved dramatically, and through web sites such as this it
is much easier to meet folks with like interests as well as learning the tricks of
the trade.

After cruising the sites for a few weeks and doing a bit of reading, I finally
ordered a Garrett Ace 250 and a pin pointer for my 65th birthday next month.
I've been playing with it in the yard for several days now. Lots of trash, hard
to break out individual targets. Many rusty nails and other metal trash. Heavy concentrations.

I moved to the clothes line hoping to find coins. Success. Silver rosies and
wheaties mixed in with a lot of cut nails. I've been pulling nails and trash in
all metal mode and then pulling the targets in jewelry mode. I also found a heavy
gold class ring and was able to ID the original owner and return it. That was a treat
for the both of us. He lost it back in 1974 and never thought he'd see it again. Property is 30
acres and was occupied since 1853. Should keep me busy for a while.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and if any of you find your
travels pass near MacBeth, SC, give me a shout. Coffee pot is on.
Warm regards, Jim

Welcome back to the hobby. I'm kind of in the same boat as you (a veteran/newbie 20 years your junior) but have been reintroduced via my son and loving it. We wish all the luck in the world and please keep us posted with your finds. I'll remember the coffee offer too...

Congratulations on the ring and the coins. Great way to get back into the hobby. Did you get any pictures of the class ring before you returned it? We all love to see any pictures that you might have.

Glad your back in the hobby again. The ace is a great machine for the price. I enjoy mine.

I understand completely what you are talking about, if it where not for the caliber of machines today, the ease of finding information and being able to communicate effectively with other people who detect I would not be detecting today.

Wish I was nearby I would definitely take you up on that cup of coffee and go hunting with you. As it is I'm quite a ways off so I will just wish you well on your adventures.

Take care,

Monolyth
