Coil waterproof - how far can you go?

The new detector that I'm getting has a waterproof coil. How far can I let it go underwater (salt water)? I obviously wouldn't be getting the electric housing wet, but would water up 12 inches above the coil hurt the detector in any way? Just wanted to make sure... thanks!

It should be waterproof all the way up to the control box. I sometimes detect 2 feet underwater with my land detector.

your good to go as deep as you like,but 1 mistake an the machine could be junk. remember also the shaft will have water in it an if you pick the coil up higher than the control box it could run down the shaft right into your box.
