I tried for the old homesite near me, but it was too overgrown to swing a coil, and the places I COULD swing it were littered with beer cans (I guess it was a party spot)

Instead I went into the woods behind my house for a little while...my first signal was this:

It's a McDonald's employee olympic pin, I believe from the 1984 olympics.

What's neat about it is that my first job was at McDonalds...I started in 1984...and my cousin was my manager....and I bought this house from him.

Not the most valuable find (although close LOL), but it's neat

Interesting find! I know what you mean about beer cans - they taunt me too at many of the home sites I detect. I like the trick about lifting your coil 5-10" off the ground. If you are still getting that loud signal, most likely a can. Seems to be accurate.

things are growing up there already? nice find and glad you got out!

Well, it's not so much that it's growing, but last year's growth...too tough to hunt still...its tempting to go in with a weed wacker :)

My friend and I went out yesterday to a park in McHenry, and I found a ring...junk metal, but it's cute...silver colored with an infinity symbol on it...
