Help! Colonial Shoe Buckle?

I hit an Old Colonial Home site today for about an hour and found this Buckle, some old bottles and tons of trash. Can anyone help me ID this buckle? Thanks!

Looks like the kind of buckle used for horses's. A shoe buckle will look like this.

This is a good example. Very interesting. I think I have a shoe buckle posted in my album. Better check.
