Found this in an area with many farming implements near an old blacksmith shop. It is heavy and I'm guessing brass. Appears to have been sheared off at top. I kept it as it has letters on it which appear to be IPM or IPA? Anyone have any idea what it may have been?

Cheers!

You know, I just looked at it again. What's your location? It might possibly be off a musket. Just a wild guess but it "feels" familiar. Touch it to a magnet and make sure it's not ferrous.

May never know for sure but I agree with the last two posts. Google "musket butt plate". Especially the trade musket images look very familiar.

Put flower on the letters then wipe it off. The flower will stay in the letters and it will be way more obvious what it says. Take a pic of it that way and post it and you may get more ideas from people.
