I know this thing looks exactly like a huge shell but somehow I don't think that's what I have here... I found it on a old farm location I hunt and I don't think the normal joe blow would have a rifle this big...

Certainly looks like a casing to me, just can't grasp what could throw that big of chunk of lead with so little powder. Could it be tear gas or perhaps for a flare?

Howitzer or recoilless rifle shell.
They used to be a popular memento. Most were cut down from full length to be used as pencil holders, ash trays, etc...

That looks very thin compared to this and has a different base rim that's why I don't think I have a shell
