Looks like a magnifying glass thats missing the lens.

That seems like a good guess but there's no seam to put glass in and it's really heavy.

I like the sound of that word. Let's see ma'am - your snaffle bit is corroded so we are going to have to remove the whole snell frocket and install a new jimmy clag. We're lookin' at 800 to 1000 dollars here.
