Today, Jeremiah and I set out to try to find some remnants of a mineral spring gathering spot that was popular in the late 1800's in a small town next to a creek. And we found a whole lot of nothing there except a new retaining wall. However, this was my first ever attempt at hunting in water (I have two waterproof machines and never tried it.) Nothing remarkable found today but I had a blast! It was upper 80's and I stayed cool....
So, this is pretty much like showing vacation photos since I don't have a bunch of cool finds, but so be it. After failing at the mineral springs, we continued down the creek to a very old railroad bridge. Lots of steel plates and spikes from the railroad. Found a couple mid-century soda bottles, a piece of a tootsie toy, and some other odds and ends. I also picked up an old shovel in the creek that looks like it has been there a while. Lugged that thing out. But it was fun.
Next, a 1930's house that Jeremiah has hit a few times and is being sold, so we gave it one more go. Seven wheat cents between the two of us and some other odds and ends (and a herd of deer hanging out). I didn't take photos of the coins and stuff.
Got hot, so we decided to go to another creek in another small town. This one was deeper and had a bit more vegetation. Huge crawdads. I found a really cool cap pistol "Made In Italy" that is in pretty great shape for being a mid century relic (I think). If anybody knows anything about that cap gun let me know.
So.....just sharing some images of my first ever creek hunt! Not really the same as you guys down in civil war territory, but I think I'm going back to the second creek to walk its length looking for bottles some day soon...
