I need ideas for places to search. So far I've checked out everything I can think of, old schools, old foundations, fields, and woods with little sucess.

Im a newbie but from what I've been gathering through this forum, you want to check in the highly traveled areas (ballparks, old amusement sites, schools, places like that) even a well traveled sidewalk or even a bus stop. Best of luck to you!

Around here we have greenbelts which are large grassy areas between streets that kids would play on. They have been great for old and new coins and jewelry. Look for curb strips too, you'll find lots of silver in an older part of town. There's a really good website that will show you satellite images through the years. Look for old ball fields in the 50's for silver coins. http://www.historicaerials.com/

ebay your hometown, hopefully you will find a seller with old photos of the downtown area. Try to find those locations

worked for me

edit: no reason to buy the photos

One of the first things I did was to hit up all my facebook friends to search their yards.

Someone once said (don't recall who, and paraphrasing a bit):

You want to look wherever a large number of people gathered for a short time or a small number of people gathered for a long time.

I'm working on finding all the places around me where drunk half naked people gathered.

Places related to boating come to mind.....

anywhere in the area that had people from back in the day. you just gotta be patient, and work slow and dig the deep good signals. but dont overlook the shllow good signals either..sometimes silver is real close under your feet!

:cool::cool:Kids playground or "Totlots" as they are referred to are great places for clad coins. Every so often you come up with a ring, watch,or charm also.Typically they are mulched which make digging easier as well.

I have been working an area where i knew years ago there was a volleyball court whcih has since been replaced with a pavillion. The wood chips were simply pushed aside into the woods. So far i have found 107 clad coins in that area, with many more beeps to go back to when we thaw out. Good luck

I get permission from Campgrounds down here alot of Clad ALOT a ring or earing or 2 But nothing old Good time tho. As far as old coins Suckkin here 4 yrs 4 silver coins lol

It was Dick Stout in his book hunting for coins. I have it and it led me to many good locations with some great finds. If you get this book its a great start.

Here is one most don't think of hunting.
Grassy and chip filled strips separating and surrounding parking lots.
I have found tons of clad, a bunch of other cool objects, silver and gold jewelry, too.
People walk over these pulling out keys and other things come out of their pockets too, jewelry falls off, nobody hears them when they fall so they are still there for the smart hunter to find.

Parks, old country schools from years ago, old fairgrounds, old steamboat landings if you have a river going thru town. Hope this helps.

check your local town or county history at the historical society are any place they have old pictures and records of your area, probably have some on the internet as well. try to find so older long time residents who know what the area was like in the old days.
