I was metal decting couple days ago and found this Massachusetts volunteer civil war buckle number 51 cool find the first this found this year in a trashy area!

do you have any links or references to corroborate that it is a Massachusetts buckle ?

I can't find anything like it online or in American Military Belt Plates book but would be interested in seeing where you found the information.

Its a Massachusetts 51 volunteer civil war I had someone from a differant forum look it. It took under 5 mins to find it

I have dug several buckles. Thats not one i have ever seen and i have a lot of Mass stuff.

It doesn't seem to be a "buckle" per se, there is no way of attaching the leather to it or keeping the leather fixed in place.
It may be some type of harness ID or adjustment slide.
Someone will figure it out though. Nice find.
