Hey y’all please take a look at these pictures and help me id this bullet. I found it today at 9 inches deep. It was found in an area where other civil war bullets and relics have been found but this is my first bullet from that period and I’m excited. It weighs 510.5 grains and is almost an inch long on a cheap micrometer. It seems to be a .577 caliber but I guess it could be something else similar. It seems to have definite rifling marks but they don’t twist like a modern bullet. It also seems to have a ramrod mark on it. Okay, that’s all I’ve got, have at it and thanks in advance!

Certainly is a bullet, you can see where the lands of the rifle barrel engraved the lead. As to age, Im not much help there.

That's an interesting bullet. I've never seen a minie ball with a jacket like that. Look like brass jacketed.

Definitely not jacketed, just the lighting. Talked to a knowledgeable gentleman in TN and he said that it’s definitely a fired 3 groove Minié ball and the reason the patina is not white like the ones there is probably because it has been so near the saltwater and occasionally submerged over the years. Pretty cool.
