Recently posted pictures of an antique silver Scottish disc that has two references to my ancestors. I have sent pictures and information to numerous Scottish British and American museums, universities and colleges and historians and information has been coming in. I have learned more about Scottish history and my family’s history than I ever imagined.

I learned my family had a lot of Jacobites in it as represented by the heart pierced by the arrow icon. I also learned the image that appears to be a hand holding a sword is actually a sign of a Peered Noble with a jousting victory over a Britain. If you expand the image you see it is a horse ( poorly engraved) wearing a crown. Also I was told this was would have represented about 8 months of wages for a farm worker so it was owned by a person of substance, most likely a nobleman.

And it probably was a “Sporan” or a decorative disc worn on a leather pouch as part of a dress kilt.

More and more amazed every time I see it.
When you mention kilt, perhaps you could reach out to members of the Scottish Rite (Freemasons)
We have some in our lodge and they wear kilts, visit Scotland, play the bagpipes, and might be able to offer more insight...

I visited the battle of Culloden in Scotland last year. Lots of history there with the Jacobites. The pic quality is not so good with some because I wasn’t supposed to be taking pics.

I dont see a horse with crown? Just a lion.
And this is one of the coolest finds ive seen. This is the stuff I love. I think it beats a fresh dropped ring any day.

The engraver had some artistic talents except for horses it seems. If you look carefully at what seems to be a hand holding a sword, it looks like there are 6 fingers but it is a profile of a horse with a crown on its head. The sword is a lance and it’s stabbing a rose (England).

I think it looks more like a hand holding a metal detector which is what I’d prefer!!

No...Thats a six fingered hand alright! Gripping a sword, the thumb would be held aloft as depicted! You got 'The Princess Bride' sporan there! What an amazing find!...That aint a horse head...thats a six fingered hand with a frilly sleeve cuff!

Hey..it happens even to this day!...Honey Booboos sister had a baby born with six fingers, From appearances, I'm pretty sure they are of Scottish descent too! Mama June is an extreme coupon clipper, a Kilt would not be out of the question,...Hell, she wore a camo deer hunting tent for a wedding dress in that one episode when she married SugarBear!...OK sure, it wasnt Tartan plaid, Mossy Oak, but what can you expect from a Georgia Walmart? Treebark?

A day digging through the dump is considered a major Family event!...(Thrifty Scot) They seem to get pretty excited and bellow like a troop of bagpipers when a train goes by...

Just saying, all the puzzle pieces are beginning to fit! Heck, you might even be shirt tail relatives!...
