I was detecting around the Macomb Illinois area last summer when I had taken a trip up there. I managed to find a gold ring in one of the yards of the old houses in that neighborhood. Later, I washed the ring off and found that it was a class ring with the name of the original owner inscribed on the inside.
After many phone calls, I was able to locate the woman that had lost the ring, it being convenient that she still lived within 50 miles of where I was visiting. When I finally was able to get ahold of her, she was awestruck because she told me that her ring had been stolen her freshman year of college. So I sent the ring to her address and everything was well.
The ring was a class ring from 1982 from one of the local high schools near Macomb. The college she went to was right in Macomb, so the thief did not get very far with the ring. It must have been dropped because I found it right along the sidewalk.
