my speaker in my Ace 150 quit working but the headphones work fine. I'm thinking of attaching a small speaker to the unit and wiring a headphone jack to it. Any suggestions?

i don't know which phones you're using, but if you happen to be using the kind with the 1/4 to 1/8 adapter, make sure you also unplug the adapter from the detector or the sound won't come through the speaker.
personally i wouldn't worry about the speaker since i always use phones.

It may be a problem with the headphone plug in your machine. Some machines have a set of contacts in the connector that complete the speaker circuit when headphones are not used, and opens when a headphone jack is inserted.

My CZ-6 doesn't have a speaker. You have to use headphones but I use them anyway. My batteries last longer and you don't miss the weak signals.
