Depends on what you want to use your detector for. Eg.: jewelry ? clad ? old coins? Nuggets/prospecting ?
As you probably already know : Anything that might have been "old" in Palm Springs, is now asphalted over. Thus junked out, etc...
If your objective is old coins, Try this site: http://historicalmaps.arcgis.com/usgs/ Notice that Desert Hot springs is divided into a partition. So to get all areas, you have to scroll and click again. And click on the oldest topos of your area. Make note of black dots (structures) . The click on modern topo dates, and see if they are still there. Ie.: modern farms, etc... If they are "gone after the teens/20s", then worth taking a drive.
