Although not dug, I have been wanting to lay my hands on this lightening arrestor ruby red ornament ever since I bought my house 35 yrs ago.

This was probably placed on the arrestor when the house was built, (1886) ..since its very difficult to get to....unless you have a bucket truck :grin:

I think its stunning (color) and the fact it survived about 47,815 sunrises, & sunsets and everything that time and Mother Nature can throw at it.

Does the glass actually serve any purpose? Decoration? We had one similar on our old house when I was a kid, but it was blue-green glass.
