Are both holes threaded? Looks like only one. If only one, a pin would go thru the hole and screw into the other making a clevis.the U shaped one has threaded ends, the other does not come close to fitting
The other thing is a part of a hinge. It screws into the post and the gate had one that screwed into it with a hole in it. The hole dropped onto the part you have. There would have been one on the top and another on the bottom.only one side threaded, clevis it is. horse shoe, clevis... now the other thing.... thanks!!!

I'm still around, just not as active lately. Detecting here is a large waste of time. Apparantly it was hit pretty hard in the 70's.Hi Bayoutalker! Good to see that you're still around and really good to hear your posts.
Since the area around us here in Washington State is resplendent with old farms this sort of stuff is the metal detecting meat on my table.
The clevis, for example was a very useful article on the old wagons as well as a common find everywhere there was a old barn and farm equipment.
