My Tesoro found an old shotgun shell.....near a real old, fallen down log dwelling in NW Colorado sagebrush country.

Maybe 3 inches deep...... No photo possible.

The paper has rotted off, but the headstamp is very visible on the brass.

It sez "PETERS REFEREE NO. 10"

There is a large letter "P" surrounding the primer pocket. No other markings on the base of this old guy.

I'm wondering about an "age window" that this shell is from. I'm guessing somewhere between 1915 and 1930.......but don't truly know.

Please, can anyone help me?

As best as I can tell, the Peters "Referee" line was made from 1895-1930+, but your headstamp variety was in use from 1910-1927. Great find! I haven't seen a 10ga Referee before.

Once again, nice find!
