Hey y'all, thanks for reading. I had a great day today at a park in a bad part of town. About 20 minutes in, I got a solid, shallow 42 hit near the basketball court, and came up with the 10k nugget-style ring, weighing in around 3.4 grams. I always thought this style is ugly, but it sure looked pretty in that moment. At 42, this is now the lowest reading I've gotten for gold (see below paragraph for a different take).
Later on, an older Asian gentleman approached me with a big smile on his face, and it became apparent that he spoke no English. I showed him my ring find, and he excitedly watched as I dug a chunk of aluminum. He took off his wedding band and put it in the hole and covered it with dirt, about 2 inches deep. I waved my machine over it, and of course it sounded off. The ring was steadily coming in at 88-90! Higher than the quarters I had been digging. I asked to see the ring. It wasn't very large in diameter, but it was chunky and probably weighed around 8 grams. Marked "9999". This had me stunned. A 24k gold ring reading higher than a quarter. So just at this one park, gold targets ranged from 42 to 90. I've got a lot more to learn about my machine.
Later on, I got a 45 signal and pulled up another 10k ring with purplish stone. Weighs 1.2 grams.
Toward the end of my hunt, I scored the 1901 French 10 cent coin. It has a hole through it so I'm assuming it was part of a necklace or something, but I'm counting it as my oldest coin. In all, I pulled in just over $25 in clad, some junk jewelry, and a hunt in the ghetto wouldn't be complete without spent rounds and drug paraphernalia. Happy hunting folks.
